RAID protects you from a single disk failure — not from everything. When a second disk fails, a controller dies or a rebuild goes wrong, the whole volume can become inaccessible.
Do this first
- Stop all writes to the array and shut it down safely.
- Label every disk with its slot number.
- Note the RAID level, controller model and any error messages.
Avoid these mistakes
- Do not force a rebuild onto a disk that has dropped out.
- Do not re-initialise or re-create the array.
- Do not run CHKDSK or file-system repair on a degraded volume.
How professional RAID recovery works
We image every member disk, determine the stripe size, disk order and parity rotation, and rebuild the array virtually without touching the originals. Then we extract your files, databases and virtual machines. Business cases can be taken up on priority.
