Data Loss FAQ

Clear answers to the questions we hear every day — causes, time, cost and confidentiality.

Data loss can happen for many reasons. Here you will find the causes of data loss from hard disks, servers and databases — and practical tips on recovery.

About Data Loss

Data recovery is the process of retrieving lost, deleted or inaccessible data from storage media such as hard drives, SSDs, memory cards, servers or tapes. It is carried out by trained specialists, especially when commercial software has failed or the device has a physical fault.

Data loss happens mainly because of hardware failure, human error (accidental deletion or formatting), corrupted software, virus and ransomware attacks, power surges, and physical damage such as water, fire or a fall.

There is no fixed time. A deleted file stays recoverable until the space it occupied is overwritten by new data. On SSDs, the TRIM feature can erase deleted data very quickly — so stop using the device as soon as possible.

Data stays secure when it is protected properly. Keep regular backups so you can access your data even if a drive fails, and use encryption so that only authorised people can open sensitive files.

Our Recovery Service

Every case is different, so each one is assessed individually before we design a recovery plan. We first make a secure copy of your media so no further damage can happen, and we ensure complete confidentiality throughout.

Many logical cases, such as an accidentally formatted drive that has not been overwritten, can be completed within 24–48 hours. The sooner you contact us, the better the chances of a full recovery.

Cost, Time & Confidentiality

The cost depends on the type of media, its capacity and the kind of failure (logical, firmware or physical). We first do a free diagnosis and then give you a firm quotation. Work starts only after your approval.

Simple logical cases are usually completed in 1–3 working days. Physical failures that need clean-room work or part replacement typically take 3–7 working days. Emergency priority service is available.

Yes. All media is handled inside our secure lab and only authorised engineers work on it. Corporate clients can request a confidentiality agreement before handing over their media.

We follow a “No Data, No Charge” policy for recovery. If we are unable to recover the data you need, you do not pay any recovery charges.

Yes, we offer pickup and delivery across Mumbai. You can also visit our lab at Lamington Road, Grant Road (Mon–Sat, 10 AM – 7 PM).

Switch it off immediately and do not try to power it on again or run recovery software. A clicking sound usually means a head or platter problem, and repeated power-ons can cause permanent damage. Contact us for a free diagnosis.
